The studio

A place to practice

Kayela has spent over seventeen years making art professionally — and each year has deepened her belief that creating is one of the most important things a human being can do. Her approach to teaching is built on three principles: focusing on the experience rather than the end product, releasing expectations and attachment to outcome, and above all, trusting yourself. She creates space for students to remember what it feels like to create freely — before the self-doubt, before the comparison, before the voice that said they weren't good enough. She is thrilled to be bringing her classes and workshops to The Payson Treehouse Collective.

How she guides

Experience over outcome

We focus on what it feels like to make the work, not on producing something frameable by the end of the hour.

Release attachment

Expectations tighten the hand. Letting go of the finished picture is what lets the drawing breathe.

Trust yourself

Above all: your mark is already yours. The practice is remembering that before the self-doubt sets in.
